The department of philosophy at the University Nancy 2 offers a BA (« licence »), a MA (« Master ») and a PhD program. The BA and MA cover all aspects of classical (ancient, modern and 19th century) and contemporary philosophy, with strong points in history and philosophy of science, analytic philosophy and history of philosophy. The University of Nancy also hosts a thriving and internationally acclaimed research center in history and philosophy of science, the « Henri Poincaré Archives » (named for the celebrated mathematician and philosopher born in Nancy in 1854).
