I was glad a fortnight ago to receive your New Year card, and had kept it as a reminder to send my own in return, when yesterday I received your beautiful volume "Théorie Mathématique de la Lumière." 1 It contains a great deal of most interesting reading for me, and I thank you very much for your kindness in sending it to me.
