The aim of the colloquium is: (a) to analyse the specific difficulties that may arise concerning the task of comparing scientific theories, and (b) to discuss the stakes of these difficulties for the question of scientific progress, rationality and realism. The focus will be essentially on the case of physics. Detailed studies of the history of science will be undertaken in conjunction with philosophical and conceptual analyses.

Conference lectures shall be in English or French (most lectures will be in english)

There will be fifteen invited speakers (see their list and the indicative abstracts), plus fifteen invited commentators, each in charge to discuss a paper (see the list). Papers will be 40 minutes duration, and critical commentaries 10 minutes.
